Aaron Glenn, Woody Johnson have ‘positive conversations’ as Jets job security questions linger

Jets coach Aaron Glenn is not very popular with Jets fans right now, but he said he still is having “very productive” talks with Jets owner Woody Johnson.

The Jets are in the midst of a three-game losing streak and have lost eight of their past nine games dating to last year. Glenn is 4-17 in his two seasons as head coach.

There are still questions about whether Glenn can keep his job in 2027. But Glenn said he and Johnson are still good.

“[They’re] very positive conversations,” Glenn said of his talks with Johnson during the losing streak. “I can say we speak after the games all the time and he gives me his thoughts. I give him the rundown of how things go and I mean, that’s the beauty of our relationship is being able to have open dialogue with each other, throwing everything on the table. There’s also a trust factor there.”

Glenn is a bit different from previous Jets coaches because he and Johnson have known each other since 2000, when Johnson bought the team and Glenn was still a player. Glenn later returned as a scout and then Johnson hired him in 2025 to be the head coach.

Johnson fired Robert Saleh after five games in 2024, and it was clear that Johnson was never a fan of Saleh, who was hired by his brother Christopher while Woody was U.S. ambassador to the United Kingdom.

“I’m fortunate to be able to have the relationship I do have with the owner of this football team,” Glenn said. “He’s one of the reasons why everybody, players, everybody wants to do everything they can, bust their asses in practice to try to accumulate these wins because of how he operates with us.”

Glenn changed the team’s schedule Wednesday, canceling practice and instead opting for a walk-through. Glenn made the move because the Bears ran 89 plays against the Jets on Sunday and he was concerned about players recovering from that workload.

“[The] defense had a good amount of plays,” Glenn said, “and plus I want this to be a recovery day anyway, for everybody, just to make sure we take care of our bodies and get ready to go through this week on a good note to play against a good team.”

It looks like the Jets will have TE Mason Taylor (thumb) back this week. Taylor missed the past two games but was estimated to be a full participant in practice Wednesday had the Jets practiced. Edge Kingsley Enagbare (knee) was limited. RB Breece Hall (quad), WR Adonai Mitchell (finger), G Dylan Parham (knee), CB Jarvis Brownlee Jr. (concussion) and LB Kiko Mauigoa (quad) were listed as did not practice. … The Jets designated WR Tim Patrick (groin) to return from injured reserve and he would have practiced fully. … The team signed edge rusher Nate Lynn to the active roster off the practice squad and placed edge Braiden McGregor (pectoral) on injured reserve. They signed edge Nathan Voorhis to the practice squad.
