‘Scrubs’ Cast Share How Long the “Just So Handsome” Scott Foley Will Be Around After Return In New Season And Why Fans Have A Lot To Look Forward To

In direct contrast to the famous quote from Scott Foley‘s time on the original Scrubs — i.e. “Nobody cares, Sean” — it seems as though everyone cares (and loves) that Foley is officially back for the show’s revival on ABC.

Chatting with DECIDER about the return of Sean Kelly, Foley’s dolphin trainer character who dated Elliot (Sarah Chalke) in the OG iteration, cast members Zach Braff, Chalke, and Donald Faison say that bringing back the beloved actor is

“He’s so handsome. He’s more handsome now than ever,” joked Braff as Faison added, “He’s got like this pepper and salt thing going. He’s got salt and pepper, but he has green eyes. He’s just so handsome.”

Ahead of the episode featuring Foley’s return, DECIDER aired an exclusive clip of Elliot and Sean coming face to face for the first time in years, and Elliot looking flustered by the sudden appearance of the one who maybe got away. To that, Chalke says that it was always the plan to bring Foley back, as they love him as much behind-the-scenes as they do when he’s in front of the cameras.

“He’s so funny. We all love having him around. All last year when we got interviewed and people were like, ‘Who do you want to come back?’ And we’re all like, ‘Foley, because he was such an important part of the show and so much fun,’” Chalke shared. “And we did it, he comes back.”

Spoiler alert: he might be around for a while, too. After Season 2, Episode 3 (“My Ex’s Ex”) ends with Elliot and Sean kissing at his aquarium, it feels like this duo will be getting some more screen time as the season goes on. While Foley was initially announced as a recurring guest star for the show, Braff says he will definitely be in a handful of episodes and fans have a lot to look forward to.

While Elliot is initially hesitant to throw herself back into a relationship, claiming that she just wants to focus on herself and her work, it’s J.D. who ultimately convinces her to give a new relationship a chance, as she deserves happiness in her love life after the hell they went through with their divorce. And even if Sean and J.D. end up falling back into their old ways (we can only hope!) it’s just more for the audience to enjoy.

“Fans — and we — love the dynamic of him and J.D. hating each other. Well, I think maybe J.D. just resents Sean because he’s so handsome and charming. But that ‘Nobody cares, Sean’ dynamic is really funny,” Braff said. “And he and Sarah are great together. So we just love having him back.”

To that, Faison — whose character is working out his own relationship kinks with Carla (Judy Reyes) in the episode — adds that fans should expect to have him around for the foreseeable future.

“It’s Scott Foley, you never know with him. That man’s like a leech, he just keeps coming back,” the actor joked. “He’s really good at what he does. I don’t think anybody does Scott Foley better than Scott Foley.”
