The new Jessica Chastain horror movie, Other Mommy, opens in movie theaters this weekend, and will leave you scared and running to mommy… but watch out!

Directed by Rob Savage, with a screenplay written by Nathan Elston, Other Mommy is based on the 2024 novel Incidents Around the House by Josh Malerman. Chastain stars in two roles in the film: Ursula, the loving mother of a young girl named Bela (played by Arabella Olivia Clark), and the evil, supernatural entity that takes Ursula’s form, which Bela has dubbed “Other Mommy.” Ursual wants to protect her daughter from this evil, but how can she do that when Bela never knows who to trust?

Other members of the Other Mommy cast include Jay Duplass, Dichen Lachman, Arian Moayed, and Karen Allen. The film was produced by James Wan (the guy who brought you Saw, Insidious, and The Conjuring), via the Atomic Monster branch of Blumhouse Productions, so franchise expectations are high. The scares are no doubt most effective on the big screen, but if you’d rather watch the Other Mommy movie at home, then read on to find out when and where we expect to be able to watch Other Mommy on streaming.

Where to watch the Other Mommy movie:

Other Mommy will only available to watch in a movie theater, when it opens in the U.S. on Friday, October 9, in theaters nationwide. You can find a showing near you via Fandango. Other Mommy is not yet available to watch online or on streaming.

Is the Other Mommy movie streaming on Netflix or Amazon Prime Video?

Other Mommy is not streaming on Netflix, and likely will not be on Netflix any time soon, due to the fact that the film is a Universal release, and not a Netflix movie. Almost all Universal movies go to the NBCUniversal streaming platform, Peacock, after the theatrical run.

You will be able to purchase Other Mommy on Prime Video eventually, when the movie becomes available to buy and rent on digital. You will also eventually be able to stream Other Mommy on Prime Video, free with a Prime subscription, four months after the movie streams on Peacock.

This is thanks to the deal between Universal and Amazon that sends Universal movies to Peacock for the first four months of the “Pay 1 window,” then to Amazon Prime Video for the next four months of the window, followed by four more months on Peacock. If our prediction for when Other Mommy will be on Peacock is correct, then you should see Other Mommy streaming on Prime around June 2027.

But the first place you’ll be able watch Other Mommy movie at home will be to buy or rent on digital platforms, followed by a streaming release on Peacock.

Peacock currently offers two subscription types: Premium with ads and Premium Plus ad-free. Peacock Premium costs $12.99/month, while Premium Plus costs $19.99/month.

You can save a bit by subscribing to one of Peacock’s annual plans, which give you 12 months for the price of 10. These cost either $129.99 with ads or $199.99 without ads.

Peacock Premium Plus is also available to subscribe to via Prime Video with a seven-day free trial that you can’t get by subscribing directly on Peacock.

Is the Other Mommy movie streaming on Peacock?

You might see Other Mommy streaming on Peacock around December 2026.

The Other Mommy streaming release date on Peacock has not yet been announced, but you will likely see the Other Mommy movie streaming on Peacock early next year. Another Universal release, You Me And Tuscany, will begin streaming on Peacock about four months after the movie opened in theaters.

If Other Mommy follows a similar release pattern, you might see the movie on digital in about a month, around early-to-mid November 2026, and streaming on Peacock around early-to-mid February 2026. That said, other Universal movies have taken just three, or even two months to come to Peacock, and Universal might want to get it on digital in time for spooky season, so you may see Other Mommy on digital and Peacock even earlier.

This is all speculation. Universal has not had a consistent digital release strategy. It varies by title. If you want to watch the Other Mommy movie right away, your best bet is to watch the movie in theaters.
