The WNBA timeout fiasco is an indictment on the referees — and the Liberty

ATLANTA — Liberty first-year coach Chris DeMarco and his staff made a rookie mistake.

They relied on notoriously shaky WNBA officiating Wednesday night.

This mistake burned the Liberty, who faced fair criticism for not using their reset timeout to advance the ball in the final seconds of their 101-98 overtime loss to the Atlanta Dream that put New York’s season on life support.

New footage, shared Thursday by ESPN’s “NBA Today,” confirmed Breanna Stewart’s account that she asked WNBA official Kevin Fahy about a reset timeout while Angel Reese prepared to shoot a pair of free throws in a one-possession game with 4.3 seconds left in overtime.
