‘Star Trek’ legend William Shatner, 95, reveals surprising details about his heavy metal album
William Shatner is still exploring “strange new worlds” at 95.
The “Star Trek” legend exclusively told Page Six that he’s embracing heavy metal music — despite initially knowing next to nothing about the genre.
“When they said, ‘How’d you like to do a heavy metal album?’ I said, ‘What the F is heavy metal?’” Shatner recalled at the New York premiere of “The Sixty-Year Mission: How Star Trek Changed Television and the World” on Thursday night.
“And that’s the title of the album,” he revealed.
Although the actor admitted he wasn’t initially familiar with the headbanging genre, he’s since become a fan.
“I’ve come to love it,” he said, praising the music’s energy and vitality.
The “Miss Congeniality” star debuted his heavy metal band, The *uckers, earlier this year at Riot Fest 2026 in Chicago, and the group has plans to tour in Australia and Florida.
Of course, Shatner is no stranger to experimenting with music.
His eclectic recording career dates back to 1968, when he released his debut album, “The Transformed Man,” featuring dramatic spoken-word renditions of songs including “Mr. Tambourine Man” and “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.”
He later teamed up with Ben Folds for his 2004 album, “Has Been,” and released “Seeking Major Tom,” which featured covers of space-themed songs, including Elton John’s “Rocket Man.”
More recently, Shatner released 2024’s “So Fragile, So Blue,” inspired by his journey into space aboard a Blue Origin spacecraft and recorded with the National Symphony Orchestra.
And heavy metal isn’t the only genre keeping the Hollywood veteran busy.
Shatner is also releasing another album, “Love & Other Mysteries,” which he worked on with country music icon Brad Paisley.
The actor was on hand Thursday to celebrate “The Sixty-Year Mission,” a new documentary he executive produced about the enduring legacy of “Star Trek.”
The film features interviews with franchise stars including Jonathan Frakes, Simon Pegg, Robert Picardo, Brent Spiner and Ethan Peck.
