California city hall goes jurassic with dino wedding ceremony
A pair of love-struck dinosaurs turned San Francisco City Hall into their own personal Jurassic Park on Thursday, trading traditional wedding attire for inflatable T-Rex costumes in a hilariously prehistoric celebration of holy matrimony.
The duo caused quite the commotion Oct. 8 when they were spotted posing for wedding photos on the historic building’s grand staircase, surrounded by other couples who apparently didn’t get the memo that the dress code was prehistoric chic.
One dinosaur even accessorized with a flowing white bridal veil and a pink-and-white bouquet, proving that even creatures with tiny arms can have big wedding dreams.
And while most newlyweds hope their marriage lasts a lifetime, these two appeared to be shooting for 65 million years.
Photographer Kate Rasskazova, who captured the unusual wedding portraits, told The California Post that the couple’s request was a first in her lengthy career.
“I’ve never had a request quite like this before, but I was so happy to get the chance to photograph people in dinosaur costumes! My son has been obsessed with dinosaurs for the past two years, so for me it was truly an honor,” said Rasskazova, who has been a photographer for more than 15 years.
Rather than questioning the couple or their ability to exchange rings with those notoriously stubby T-Rex arms, Rasskazova happily embraced the Jurassic-sized assignment.
“They’re wonderful people with a great sense of humor, and I love supporting my clients’ ideas, no matter how wild they might sound at first,” she told The Post.
The spectacle was also captured on video by San Francisco resident Rio De Léon, who had simply stopped by City Hall to admire its stunning architecture.
Instead, he got a front-row seat to what might be the most unexpected wedding photo shoot in the building’s history.
“I started recording the space from above, and as I panned to the right, I spotted the newlyweds in inflatable dinosaur costumes waiting to take their wedding photos on the grand staircase,” he told the Post.
For De Léon, who grew up obsessed with dinosaurs, the unexpected sight was practically a childhood dream come true.
“My reaction was completely spontaneous. Dinosaurs were my favorite growing up, and even as an adult, I still get excited whenever I see them,” he said.
“Moments like that keep me connected to my inner child, so it felt like such a funny and serendipitous thing to unexpectedly come across.”
Naturally, the internet had an absolute field day with the prehistoric lovebirds.
The viral video has already racked up more than 283,000 likes, with social media users cracking jokes about the couple’s unconventional wedding wardrobe.
“3 types of girls. Massive red dress in the middle of staircase. Minimal white dress on the side of the staircase. DINOSAUR ONSIE,” one commenter joked.
Another proposed an elaborate Hollywood conspiracy theory behind the inflatable disguises.
“Imagine this: Movie plot, a celebrity and a “normal” person wants to get married but needs to hide from the paparazzi.”
Others couldn’t help but point out the brutal reality that even dinosaurs are apparently having better luck in the dating pool.
“Even dinosaur getting married, and some people are still single,” one user quipped.
As for the newlyweds, their identities remain a mystery, but one thing is certain — they certainly know how to make a wedding unforgettable.
Here’s hoping their marriage doesn’t go the way of the dinosaurs.
