Eagles’ Jeremiah Trotter Jr., Jaguars’ Bryan Thomas Jr. ejected for fighting on opening kickoff

The NFL trip to London lasted one play for one player on each team.

Jaguars defensive end Bryan Thomas and Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. earned ejections for an altercation on the opening kickoff of Sunday’s game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The two players fought and needed to be separated around midfield after Jacksonville returner Josh Cameron ran back the kickoff 90 yards for a would-be touchdown, but the score was negated by additional offsetting penalties on both sides.

The Eagles were called for an illegal formation, while the Jags were flagged for holding during the return by linebacker Branson Combs.

Officials huddled for several minutes before it was determined that Trotter and Thomas would be disqualified.

Trotter was expected to start at linebacker after registering 15 tackles last week against the Rams.

The Eagles, who entered the contest with a 2-2 record on the year, already were without several key players, including running back Saquon Barkley and starting receivers DeVonta Smith and Hollywood Brown.

Longtime offensive tackle Lane Johnson also announced his retirement during the week, while center Cam Jurgens was traded to the Ravens.

The Jaguars, 3-1 entering Sunday, were coming off back-to-back statement wins over the Bengals on the road and defending AFC Champion Patriots, whom they dominated 35-6 two weeks ago.
