49ers star talks ‘triangle rivalry’ in NFC West after huge win over Seahawks

The 49ers got the win in Seattle Sunday.

The Seahawks presented perhaps the toughest challenge for San Francisco through the first five weeks of the season. The 49ers rose to the occasion and mustered a 32-29 win over the defending champions.

49ers star Trent Williams discussed what he dubbed a “triangle rivalry” in the NFC West between San Francisco, Seattle and the Rams.

“I love being in this environment. In this division, there’s a couple teams: us, the Rams, the Seahawks. It’s like a triangle rivalry, being in any one of these environments and getting a win is better than normal,” Williams said.

The 49ers’ victory Sunday shook things up in the division as San Francisco holds first place by two games. While the Rams play on Monday Night Football, a win for Los Angeles would give them a 3-2 record to match Seattle’s. A loss would put the Rams in third place.

All three teams are expected to reach the playoffs, an inordinate amount for a single division.

The NFC West remains one of the most competitive divisions in the league and that is especially true this year with the reigning Super Bowl champion Seahawks, the Super Bowl favorite Rams and the surprisingly lethal San Francisco squad.

Whenever the teams square off, anything can happen. But one thing is certain: there’s bad blood amongst all three teams.
