Sex assault reported at University of Chicago frat house
A woman was allegedly sexually assaulted at a frat party at the University of Chicago, with the suspect seen running away from the building, according to the student paper.
The alleged weekend attack occurred at the house of the Lambda chapter of the Alpha Epsilon Pi (AEPi ) fraternity in the city’s lakefront Hyde Park neighborhood, according to The Chicago Maroon.
The accuser, who is not a student, said the assault happened at around 1:50 a.m., about three hours into a Saturday night party that the frat was hosting, the report said.
The suspect fled the party after someone intervened — and was later seen on surveillance footage running from the building, campus police told the student paper.
“All of AEPi hurts for the person who was the victim in this incident,” Jonathan Pierce, the chief communications officer for AEPi’s national organization, told the paper.
“No one should attend an event on any campus — fraternity-based or otherwise — and have to fear for their safety and wellbeing.”
The reported attack comes on the heels of a national reckoning over an alleged gang rape at New York’s Cornell University in 2024.
A then-18-year-old woman, referred to in court documents as “Jane Doe,” filed a lawsuit last month against seven Chi Phi frat members, Cornell, the national fraternity and several other parties in connection with the alleged incident, in which she claims she was coerced into consuming ketamine and alcohol before being sexually abused at the frat house for many hours.
The accuser had filed a complaint with the university later that year, but no criminal charges were ever filed in sparsely populated Tompkins County — even as Cornell sanctioned her alleged attackers and shut down the fraternity’s chapter.

The criminal investigation is now reopened, and Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul has appointed Attorney General Letitia James as a special prosecutor.
All seven men named in her lawsuit deny criminal wrongdoing.
The accuser in last weekend’s Chicago case was treated at University of Chicago Medical Center after a university officer was flagged down following the alleged incident, according to the report.
The Chicago Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Post.
