Megyn Kelly encourages Don Lemon to run for president: ‘I’m going to shock you’
Conservative podcaster Megyn Kelly offered a surprising endorsement of media rival Don Lemon, who has repeatedly floated the idea of running for president in the 2028 election.
During her podcast “The Megyn Kelly Show” Tuesday, Kelly, 55, argued Lemon, 60, should follow through on a presidential run – arguing he can’t be any worse than former Vice President Kamala Harris or former President Joe Biden.
“I’m going to shock you. I think he should do it. I actually think he should do it,” Kelly said.
“First of all, it’s not a dealbreaker that he has spent his life as a journalist. I mean, you could absolutely parlay that into a career in public service.
“Second of all, do you really think Kamala Harris is a lot smarter than Don Lemon? Do you?” Kelly said. “I know she was at least a lawyer, she was an attorney general for the state of California – [but] no, I don’t believe so.
“Do you think Joe Biden was? I don’t. Are we so enamored with our public officials now, we don’t think somebody like Don Lemon could do it? Honestly! I’m not.”
Lemon – a former CNN anchor who now hosts his own podcast – has said he’s “serious” about running in the 2028 presidential election, insisting he’d be a “really good” commander-in-chief. He has also suggested using his podcast to campaign.
“I actually think, yeah, he could match wits against AOC [Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a possible 2028 election contender] just fine,” Kelly continued. “And will he do it from his podcasting booth? That would be interesting to watch.”
“All I can say is it would certainly give us a lot to talk about, so I encourage him and I’m rooting for him.”

Lemon was fired from CNN in April 2023 after 17 years with the network, following accusations of his sexist and “diva-like behavior.”
The controversial morning news host has since been working as an independent journalist, hosting his own podcast, “The Don Lemon Show,” on YouTube and other streaming platforms.
In January, Lemon was arrested for allegedly joining a group of anti-ICE activists who stormed a church service in Minnesota.
He pleaded not guilty to federal civil rights charges, arguing he was acting in his capacity as an independent journalist by covering the church protest.
Kelly – a former TV personality on NBC News and Fox News – was fired from NBC News in 2018 after she defended the use of blackface in Halloween costumes.
She apologized to staffers and viewers, but her show, “Megyn Kelly Today,” was promptly canceled.
