‘Furious’ Meghan Markle lashed out at designer pal over Kate Middleton stylist mix-up: book

Meghan Markle reportedly lashed out at designer friend Roland Mouret over what he deemed a simple mix-up involving Kate Middleton.

Mouret recounted the alleged fallout in his new memoir, “I Am Roland Mouret: The Butcher’s Boy Who Dressed the World,” noting in an excerpt published Friday by The Times that he offered to send the Duchess of Sussex a selection of clothes shortly after she began dating Prince Harry in 2016.

The French designer said he asked a member of his team to send some clothes he’d set aside to the palace, instructing them to “leave them there as long as she wants them” and “don’t follow up on it and do not talk about it to anyone at all, here or outside.”

Mouret explained that, after Harry and Markle’s relationship became public, the same team member who’d sent the clothes “decided, in an honest attempt to be efficient, to call Kate’s stylist at the palace and ask for Meghan’s dresses to be returned.”

“Meghan was furious and called me,” he writes, noting that the duchess told him, “You don’t realise what you’ve done! You’ve embarrassed me!”

Mouret said he apologized for the mistake directly to Markle, telling her he knew she had wanted things done “privately,” but that she told him, “You know now I can never wear your clothes again.”

“I didn’t see the logic of that but I didn’t question it,” Mouret writes. “Meghan’s decision not to wear my clothes was hers, not the palace’s, not anybody else’s. I don’t think anyone else cared.”

The following year, Mouret recounted, he contacted Markle after seeing her wear what he called “a cheap high street copy” of one of his designs.

“I messaged her: ‘I can understand if you don’t wear my stuff, but if it’s to wear a cheap copy then that’s ridiculous. Come back,’” he writes, adding, “She texted back: ‘I think I should come and see you.’”

Markle and Middleton have had an icy relationship for years, with the “Suits” actress revealing it was the Princess of Wales who made her cry days before her royal wedding — not the other way around, as initially reported — during a bombshell sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021.

Markle — who had recently returned to the United States with Harry after they’d quit the royal family in 2020 — didn’t divulge any details about their tiff except to acknowledge it was over her 2018 wedding’s flower-girl dresses “and it made me cry, and it really hurt my feelings.”

“There wasn’t a confrontation,” she said, adding, “I don’t think it’s fair to her to get into the details because she apologized, and I’ve forgiven her.”

“It was a really hard week of the wedding and she was upset about something, but she owned it, and she apologized, and she brought me flowers and a note, apologizing,” Markle added, calling Middleton “a good person” and noting that the media “really seemed to want a narrative of a hero and a villain.”

“If you love me, you don’t have to hate her. And if you love her, you don’t need to hate me,” she said.

With Meghan and Harry having recently moved back to the United Kingdom with their kids — Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5 — there had been reports the couple were planning to apologize for their interview with Winfrey to Prince William and Middleton, but our sources say that’s not true.

“It is total rubbish,” royal journalist Tom Sykes told Page Six of the rumors earlier this week, with the author of “The Dukes” adding, “Harry has always said he will never apologize for anything.”

Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield also stated that there’s no credibility to the fodder, saying, “Prince Harry and Meghan remain defiant.”

“If anything, the pattern has remained consistent,” the “Kinsey Schofield Unfiltered” podcast host continued. “I would treat claims that they now regret Oprah and are preparing to ‘eat crow’ with serious skepticism.”
