AI company Databricks doubling footprint at 5 Bryant Park
Data and AI company Databricks is doubling its footprint at Savanna’s 5 Bryant Park to 120,000 square feet across five floors. The firm plans to enlarge its engineering and research headcounts.
Details of the lease weren’t released. However, perhaps more interesting are comments by Tasso Argyros, Databricks’ vice-president of engineering in the city, on his corporate blog.
He wrote that earlier this year Databricks “made a bet” that “world-class AI would be built in Manhattan. Today, that bet is paying off.”
Argyros expanded, “New York is the global nerve center for financial services, media, healthcare, and retail. These companies are where AI gets shaped in the real world, and where the AI rubber meets the industry road.”
He also cited the city’s “talent-rich ecosystem,” noting, “We’ve seen firsthand that top new graduates increasingly want to build their careers here, and Databricks gives them the opportunity to work on problems at the frontier of data and AI without leaving the city.”
