Drake Maye credits wife’s baked ‘treats’ for Patriots O-line’s stellar work vs. Jets

To paraphrase an old “Seinfeld” episode, perhaps everyone needs to “look to the cookie” in order to explain why the Patriots offensive line allowed zero sacks on Sunday in New England’s win over the Jets.

The Patriots offensive line held the Jets at bay despite Gang Green being one of the better defensive teams in the league with 19 sacks this season, tied for third in the NFL.

So what was the secret on Sunday? Well, according to Patriots quarterback Drake Maye, it was the cookies his wife baked for the team.

“I said, ‘I gotta bring in some more treats,’ shout out Ann Michael,” Maye told reporters with a laugh after the game. “Gotta keep on bringing some more treats. Those guys are doing a heck of job in there.”

Maye’s wife has become a viral sensation amid his rise to stardom as he helped take the Patriots to the Super Bowl last season.

Ann Michael drew her own fans when she gained social media notoriety with her viral baking videos on TikTok during “Bakemas.”

Last season, Maye also told WEEI in an interview that during “Bakemas” he was trying to bring in leftovers for his teammates.

“It’s been awesome,” Maye said last December on the Boston sports talk station. “[She’s] in her little journey doing ‘Bakemas’ right now.

“I get to do the good part of trying all her stuff she bakes. I try to bring some leftovers into the building.”

It seems that he’s still been doing so all this time later and it has paid off.

The Jets sacked Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson eight times the previous week.

Aside from the cookies, Maye praised the work the linemen had been doing with the coaching staff.

“These guys are fighting hard. They’re fighting their butts off, and it goes through them,” Maye said. “That last drive running the football, [I] had the best seat in the house. Was beautiful to see, and I think the more we can do that, the more we can just gel together as offense and lean on that.”
