Hunter Schafer reveals she underwent bottom surgery in 2025

Hunter Schafer revealed she underwent bottom surgery in December 2025.

The “Euphoria” alum, 27, discussed undergoing the operation to change a person’s genitals to align with their gender identity in an interview with Elle magazine published Monday. She called the surgery “amazing” and noted, “I love it so much.”

Schafer said that she’s struggled with the tension between queerness as an idea and philosophy “versus how it applies and works in real life, in the context of the world that we’re living in.”

Ultimately, gender-affirming surgery was the right decision for the actress, who began transitioning when she was 14 years old.

“For a long time I’ve embraced the gender-expansive part of myself, and I really wanted to try to make that previous body work, because I thought there was something really cool and badass about it,” she reflected.

But at this point, she feels no ambiguity about her gender identity.

“I’m a woman. I’m a girl,” she said.

Back in 2024, Schafer talked about not wanting to be pigeonholed when it comes to being transgender.

“I don’t want to be [reduced to] that, and I find it ultimately demeaning to me and what I want to do,” she told GQ magazine. “Especially after high school, I was sick of talking about it. I worked so hard to get to where I am, past these really hard points in my transition, and now I just want to be a girl and finally move on.”

She added, “It’s a privilege, but it’s been very intentional. I’ve gotten offered tons of trans roles, and I just don’t want to do it. I don’t want to talk about it.”

Her stance appears to have softened, as she told Elle in her new interview that she would be love to star in a “trans girl rom-com.”

“I’ve been thinking about that for a while,” she said. “I would like to make that happen.”
