Monster great white leaps out of ocean off scenic Monterey Bay beach
This beachside photobomb came with a terrifying set of razor-sharp teeth.
A gigantic great white shark decided to make a splash off the California coast, launching its massive body out of the ocean and turning a group of beachgoers’ innocent photo session into a scene straight out of “Jaws.”
The toothy terror made its surprise appearance at Marina State Beach along Monterey Bay, where a group of friends were enjoying the coastal scenery and snapping photos and videos, according to CBS.
But Mother Nature apparently had other plans for their beach day.
As the group recorded the picturesque ocean on their phones, the enormous predator suddenly erupted from the water, soaring several feet into the air in a heart-stopping display.
The California State Parks Department independently confirmed the shark sighting to CBS, putting to rest any suspicions that the terrifying spectacle was a Hollywood special effect.
Fortunately, the group was watching from shore rather than taking a leisurely dip when the ocean’s most infamous apex predator decided to make its grand entrance.
The wild encounter quickly caught the attention of social media users, who had plenty to say about the shark’s less-than-subtle arrival.
“I wouldn’t exactly be putting on my swimsuit and wading in,” one understandably cautious viewer wrote.
“That is a BIG shark,” another declared, stating what everyone was probably thinking.
A third joked, “So much for the element of surprise.”
And while the enormous shark might have stolen the show, its dramatic cameo served as a reminder that California’s postcard-perfect beaches come with some seriously wild neighbors.
Marina State Beach is nestled along the Marina Dunes Natural Preserves and boasts sweeping views of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, a federally protected stretch of ocean teeming with marine life.
The scenic destination is popular with picnickers, hang-gliders, kite enthusiasts and visitors hoping to soak up some sunshine.

But anyone planning to take the plunge should think twice.
California State Parks warns that water recreation at the beach is extremely hazardous because of powerful rip currents.
And now, thanks to one particularly enthusiastic great white, visitors have another reason to admire the Pacific from the safety of the sand.
Great white sharks are native to California’s coastal waters, where they play an important role in maintaining the marine ecosystem.
Although their fearsome reputation has been cemented by decades of Hollywood horror movies, attacks on humans are rare.
Still, there’s something deeply unsettling about watching a massive shark rocket out of the water just as you’re trying to capture the perfect beachside Instagram moment.
The friends may have headed to Marina State Beach hoping for some scenic ocean footage, but they ended up with a blockbuster-worthy encounter.
Apparently, even great whites can’t resist crashing a good photo shoot.
