Homer-happy Rays finish off Guardians to set up small-market World Series matchup with Brewers

The Rays are World Series bound.

Tampa Bay is headed to the Fall Classic for just the third time in franchise history and first time since 2020 after defeating the Guardians 7-3 in Game 6 of the ALCS at Tropicana Field.

Two runs in the seventh and another two in the eighth proved to be crucial for the Rays in clinching the series 4-2 to set up a matchup with the Brewers.

Junior Caminero hit a two-run home run to put the Rays up 5-1 in the bottom of the seventh, which was needed after Cleveland scored twice in the top of the eighth.

Yandy Díaz hit a two-run shot in the bottom half of the eighth to extend Tampa’s lead to five.

Rays starter Freddy Peralta lasted 5 ⅓ innings, allowing one run on five hits and striking out three batters.

The trip to the World Series against the Brewers will give the Rays another chance to capture the organization’s first World Series.
