Bob Iger announces ‘candid’ book after ‘bumpy’ Disney tenure featuring CEO feuds

Former Disney CEO Bob Iger announced his latest book, billed as “the candid inside story of the sometimes bumpy, never boring journey.”

The 75-year-old exec had the top role at the House of Mouse for 15 years edning in 2020 – an era that considered highly profitable and transformative.

His first tome, a number-one bestseller, focused on a period that included Disney’s $71.3 billion acquisition of Fox. Iger’s next volume is set to focus on a more tumultuous era.

Written with Hillary Clinton’s former head speechwriter Dane Schwerin, “One Last Time” will cover Iger’s recent four-year era stint he was asked to come back as CEO after reportedly ousting his successor, Bob Chapek.

Iger’s book announcement comes just a few weeks after Chapek published his own account of his time at Disney. His “Behind the Castle Wall” mentions Iger 121 times and includes allegations that Iger considered himself the modern reincarnation of Walt Disney, according to Variety.

Chapek maintained in his book that from the moment Iger announced his appointment, “he clearly regretted it and seemed to initiate a relentless three-year campaign to push me out.” He went as far to call his onetime mentor a “sniper.”

It’s not yet known whether Iger will go into details about the Chapek firing in his upcoming book.

In a recent Harvard Business Review interview, Iger – without naming Chapek — said: “We had a process back in 2019 and ’20 when we chose my successor. Looking back, perhaps it wasn’t as thorough as we thought, in part because we thought we knew the person extremely well.”

Iger has since retired, with Josh D’Amaro taking the reins at Disney.

During Iger’s run, investors were at war when activist investor Nelson Peltz, who tried to snag a board seat after being dissatisfied with streaming numbers. Iger’s publisher made clear the subject was on the table, with Iger calling his book a “comeback story.”

The book will also deal with challenges like the brief suspension of “The Jimmy Kimmel Show,” run by Disney-owned ABC, according to publisher Random House.

Iger recently told the Financial Times the host’s 2025 comments about Charlie Kirk — which landed him in hot water — were in bad taste.

“One Last time: Managing Crisis and Building Resilience at Disney” is set for a March release.
