Minnesota Wild launches investigation into ‘unacceptable’ slur captured on game broadcast’s hot mic

An offensive word was heard during the broadcast of Tuesday night’s Wild vs. Oilers game, and Minnesota said on Wednesday it’s now investigating how the “unacceptable” language made its way to air.

The scene unfolded in the second period of the NHL contest in Edmonton, when a referee was getting set to address the crowd at Rogers Place.

“Every goalie is r—ded,” an unidentified man was heard saying on a hot mic on the broadcast.

The Wild told the California Post on Wednesday that the remark “did not come from a member of our broadcast team,” however, it’s still nonetheless probing the matter.

“The language is unacceptable and has no place on our broadcast,” the Wild said. “We deeply regret that this occurred.”

Minnesota was losing 3-1 at the time of the incident, though it went on to tie the game at three in the third period.

Edmonton did ultimately go on to win the game in overtime, 4-3.

The Wild is now 6-2-2 to start the season, while the Oilers are 7-1-1.
