‘Marshals’ Exclusive Clip: Who Will Temporarily Succeed Pete “Cal” Calvin Once He Goes On Medical Leave?
Pete “Cal” Calvin (Logan Marshall-Green) may be in denial about how much longer he can work during his chemotherapy regimen, but his co-workers sure aren’t. After Belle Skinner (Arielle Kebbel) surprised him by showing up during his first treatment—even though he told her not to come—Cal was heartened by the support. In this exclusive clip from this week’s Marshals, Cal, under pressure, must face reality and choose his temporary successor before he goes on medical leave.
The scene begins with Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal Harry Gifford (Brett Cullen) taking a seat in Cal’s office. “You’re looking good, Calvin,” says Gifford. “What’d you expect?” asks Calvin with a small chuckle. “That’s just something you say to people in your circumstance,” replies Gifford.
Not liking where the conversation is going, Cal gets straight to the point. “So, what brings you here, Harry?” Gifford shifts uncomfortably in his seat. “Well, I’m here to give you my full support, but I also want to discuss with you your replacement when you go on medical leave,” says Gifford. Unnerved, Cal leans back in his chair and asks: “That’s a ways down the road, no?”
“If all things go according to plan,” says Gifford. Cal looks ashen. “I know that sounds cold, but the president appointed me to make sure Montana stays safe. My elite unit stays elite, even without you,” continues Gifford.

“Phil Berenger in Tulsa,” says Cal quickly. “That’d be my choice. He’s a solid operator. He could keep this team in line.” Gifford hesitates. “Berenger’s a good man, but I wanted to keep it in-house.” Cal raises his eyebrows. “Deputy Cruz seems right to me,” says Gifford.
“Andrea?” asks Cal incredulously. “Look, she’s a great Marshal, but she’s still a little green when it comes to leading.” Gifford doesn’t back down. “Coach her up,” says Gifford. “After the Clegg captivity, she’s a rising star in D.C. It’d be good for the higher-ups to see the talent pool I’ve developed.”
“Takes a steady hand to point the tip of the spear, Harry,” says Cal simply. Just then, Andrea Cruz (Ash Santos) appears at the door and walks in. “Speak of the devil,” laughs Gifford. Confused, Cruz ignores him and gets down to business. “The dirtbag we picked up last night is begging for a plea deal,” says Cruz. “So, what’s he got to trade?” asks Cal. “Just a top 15 fugitive: a serial bomber, Rudy Carpenter,” says Cruz. Both men sit up to attention.
“Carpenter’s a big ass fish,” says Cruz. “More like Cal’s white whale,” replies Gifford as he shifts in his seat. “The stink on you when you let him go on that mountaintop is still on you and your unit, Cal.” Cal leans back in his chair and looks up at the ceiling with a slight smile. “Deputy Cruz just gave you a shot at redemption,” says Gifford.
Will Cal finally get his man? Will Gifford appoint Cruz as Cal’s replacement despite his wishes? Tune in to an all-new episode of Marshals this Sunday at 8 PM ET/PT on CBS.
