In a January 21, 2026 Instagram post, Leith announced her departure from the program and very valid reasons for retirement:

“After nine series and judging more than 400 challenges, I have decided to step down as a judge on The Great British Bake Off,” Leith wrote, explaining that “now feels like the right time to step back (I’m 86 for goodness sake!)”

“[T]here’s so much I’d like to do, not least spend summers enjoying my garden. Whoever joins the team, I’m sure they’ll love it as much as I have. I feel very lucky to have been part of it.”

Since then, she’s been updating her Instagram and promoting her new book, Being Old… and learning to love it!

Who Is Nigella Lawson, Prue Leith’s Replacement on The Great British Baking Show?

Nigella Lawson is a 66-year-old British food writer, television presenter, and former journalist who revolutionized food television with her first show, 1999’s Nigella Bites. That series followed her life as a home cook in London, rustling through overpacked pantries, indulging in late night treats, and caring for her children. (Today you can easily fall into a hole on YouTube watching bootlegs of this show.) Lawson went on to become a super-successful cookbook author with a series of future appearances on British and American television.

Where Is The Great British Baking Show Filmed?

The Great British Baking Show is currently filmed on the grounds of Welford Park, a country house and estate located in Welford, in the county of Berkshire in England (which is about 65 miles west of London). The estate is actually open to visitors several times during the year and there are even quaint rental cottages you can stay in.

The Great British Baking Show has used Welford Park as its primary filming location over years, specifically 2014-2019 and 2022 – today. A “Bake Off bubble” at Down Hall subbed in for Welford Park during the COVID pandemic, while the tent literally moved around the UK in early seasons.
