MotoGP race suspended after adorable wallaby makes way onto track

MotoGP’s final Australian Grand Prix in Phillip Island was suspended during practice after a wallaby made it onto the track.

The action, which took place on Friday afternoon, saw two red flags as the session was forced to be stopped.

The first of those was the result of a crash involving Italian Marco Bezzecchi.

But the second red flag was the result of a wallaby somehow getting inside the barriers, as it was filmed bouncing along by the side of the track.

After a short period of time, the session restarted, and it was Bezzecchi who ended up top of the standings.

But much of the post-session reaction was centred around the interference of the wallaby.

The Cyber House said: “A red flag for a wallaby is the most Australian delay in motorsport.”

Samuel Rodriguez reacted: “One wallaby steps onto the track and suddenly it’s got more say over the schedule than race control.”

The Ingenieur joked: “Red flag must be because the wallaby did not wear a helmet.”

Martyn said: “Get Skippy a bike.”

And Lance Daniels said: “Where’s his ticket? That’s all I want to know.”

The 2026 Australian Grand Prix will be the final time it is staged on Phillip Island, with Adelaide signing a six-year deal to host the race from 2027.

Spaniard Jorge Martin leads the MotoGP Riders’ Standings, two points clear of Marc Marquez and 46 ahead of teammate Bezzecchi.
