Pitching coach Matt Blake gets Yankees extension after staff’s dominant season

An important piece of Aaron Boone’s coaching staff will be sticking around a little bit longer.

Pitching coach Matt Blake agreed to a contract extension with the club Saturday, according to The Post’s Jon Heyman.

The Post’s Joel Sherman was the first to report that Blake and the Yankees were moving toward an agreement.

Yankees pitchers had the lowest ERA in the league during the regular season (3.23) and the postseason (1.88).

Team owner Hank Steinbrenner praised the team’s staff this week while blaming the club’s offense for their early October exits, getting swept by the Rays in the ALDS.

Blake has been the Yankees pitching coach for the past seven seasons.

Boone is currently working without a contract extension going into next season.
