Freak floods hit Disneyland as guests left scrambling for higher ground: ‘I was all wet bro’

Disneyland got a real-life water ride Friday night when a sudden downpour turned the Happiest Place on Earth into a soggy mess, flooding walkways, swamping popular lands and disrupting outdoor attractions.

An intense 15-minute cloudburst over Anaheim overwhelmed parts of the California theme park, sending water spilling across pedestrian paths and leaving visitors scrambling to keep their shoes dry.

The National Weather Service had forecast regional rainfall totals of around 25 millimeters across Southern California on Friday, but the sudden deluge caught some parkgoers off guard as storm drains struggled to keep up.

Footage circulating online showed ankle-deep floodwaters outside Frontierland’s Pioneer Mercantile and Shooting Exposition, with stranded tourists picking their way along garden edges and climbing onto benches to avoid the rising water.

“The Rivers of America just expanded into Frontierland” one Disneyland California visitor commented on Instagram.

Videos also captured pools of standing water in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and around the Haunted Mansion, as frustrated guests watched their park outing turn into a soggy slog.

“My weather app said no rain for 6 hours. 45 minutes later it said heavy rain in 18 min. Then it said “flash flood warning”! Totally out of no where,” one visitor said on Instagram.

Another guest’s video of the downpour went viral, capturing the frustration of getting caught without rain gear.

“Bro I came to Disneyland the wrong day it fr wasn’t supposed to rain today. Bro I didn’t even have a hoodie or an umbrella, my feet were soaked n I was all wet bro.”

Over in Fantasyland, backed-up stormwater between Sleeping Beauty Castle and the Matterhorn Bobsleds transformed pedestrian lanes into flowing streams. Protective shade canopies above outdoor dining hubs overflowed under the weight, dumping cascades of water directly onto guest seating below.

Disneyland Cast Members sprang into action with brooms and squeegees, clearing clogged drains and debris as water threatened to spread farther across the park.

“A brave Cast Member is unclogging the drain as we speak,” one visitor documented from a sheltered landing. “Our dry shoes, our socks, and the future of Frontierland are in your hands.”

The water issues quickly spread beyond the turnstiles to the resort’s primary transport hubs. Standing water pooled across the Mickey & Friends and Pixar Pals parking tram terminals, complicating late-night departures for families with strollers.

“Barely made it to the car before the crazy downpour happened,” one Disneyland visitor commented on Instagram.

Disneyland management temporarily suspended outdoor rides across the park as lightning was detected over Orange County, while the evening’s fireworks display was also cancelled due to the high winds, wet weather, and lightning risks.

Operations teams worked late into the night to clear debris and pump away standing water, aiming to get the resort back in shape for the weekend crowds.
