Why the under makes sense as the 5-0 Kansas City Chiefs visit the Seattle Seahawks

“Sunday Night Football” has been one of the best games of the week almost every week this season. The league reserves one of the best matchups of the week to put in that slot, and they’ve done that for us this week. One of the things I like most about this game is that we see two of the past three Super Bowl champions taking each other on as the Chiefs take on the Seahawks.

The Kansas City Chiefs had a disaster of a season last year, and honestly, I was one of the people who counted them out quite a bit this season. Last year they looked old, disjointed, disinterested, and overall bad. This season, the Chiefs have found a way to a 5-0 record, but their bye week has already passed, which makes me think they will lose some games late in the season. It gets harder to win as the games start piling up, and those later bye weeks help to heal injuries.

So far, though, the team looks great, and the offense seems back to normal after a down year last season.

Patrick Mahomes is back from an ACL tear suffered late last season. Mahomes has 1,309 passing yards, nine touchdowns, and three interceptions for the season. Their biggest addition was Kenneth Walker III, who is averaging about 6 yards per carry, and he has six touchdowns on the ground.

The dynamic of a tough running game keeps the defense guessing, and that’s really all the Chiefs need to be deadly. The passing defense hasn’t been elite this season, but the rushing defense has been very good.

The Seattle Seahawks have struggled a bit this season and are just 3-3 coming into the game. Sam Darnold looks like he is back to making bad decisions. He has 1,033 passing yards, seven touchdowns, and seven interceptions for the season. His most recent was against the Broncos last week, and he threw an interception in overtime, which, for all intents and purposes, gave Denver the victory.

This was the third loss in four weeks for Seattle. They do get a bit of an advantage because they played Thursday last week, so they have a bit of extra rest.

None of the losses for Seattle are bad. All three are by three points or fewer. Their running game has been almost non-existent this season, especially compared to last year. Jaxon Smith-Njigba is still one of the best in the league, and he has hauled in seven touchdowns this year. Still, the Seahawks can’t be that one-dimensional.

Their wins this year have been against a Patriots team that looked awful in Week 1 – with Drew Lock coming in for Darnold early in the game. Then they beat a Cardinals team that is mediocre, and the Charges who haven’t won at all.

The lone loss the Seahawks have taken at home this season was against the 49ers. I’m not believing that the Chiefs will go 17-0, but I do think the team will win this game. Their defense has been very good, but more importantly, the offense looks like it is back to being unique. Seattle has a strong rushing defense, but Walker is probably on a mission to show the Seahawks what they are missing.

Seattle has the best passing defense, so the under makes a ton of sense as well. I’ll put a half unit on the Chiefs to win and a half unit on the under.
