Parents arrested after wild fight at 12-year-old’s softball game caught on video
A wild brawl broke out at a youth softball game in Sugar Lane, Texas, leaving two people injured and a set of parents facing criminal charges, ABC Eyewitness News reported.
The incident went down during a game between two 12-year-old softball teams at Imperial Park, where Kiarious Marshun Hall and his wife Jazmine Hall were attending their daughter’s game.
The dispute erupted over Marshun’s alleged behavior duing the opposing team’s at-bats.
Per police and court records, a man from Timbergrove Thunder allegedly approached Hall and told him he “couldn’t cheer before the players pitched the ball.”
A video reviewed by investigators allegedly showed Hall striking a man in the face with a metal water bottle, knocking him to the ground unconscious.
He is also claimed to have struck a second man, a grandfather named Gary Greaser, who tried to separate the two men after Hall’s first strike.
“I said ‘You can’t do this.’ I took him, I wanted to disarm the guy, because he’s going to do it to somebody else,” Greaser said.
“We’re saying ‘Hey, why are you getting loud?’ It’s bad sportsmanship to do it right as the pitch comes up when our girls are batting, and that’s all it took. He just flipped and said, ‘I can do whatever I want, I can say whatever I want. And you can’t stop me.’”
Hall has since claimed to investigators his actions were in self defense after he was “elbowed and poked” in the chest. Court documents state the video did not back up that claim.
Court records also noted Jazmine Hall allegedly pushed Greaser before both of them fell into bushes and bystanders eventually broke up the fight.
After the brawl, Sugar Land police arrested both Kiarious Marshun Hall and Jazmine Hall and both were booked at Fort Bend County Jail.
Marshun was charged with assault causing bodily injury, while Jazmine resigned from her position as assistant principal at Lamar Junior High School on Monday.
“Lamar CISD is aware of the incident involving a Lamar Junior High School employee,” the district said in a statement. “The employee voluntarily reported the incident to the district’s human resources department over the weekend. The incident occurred outside of school and was not associated with any Lamar CISD-sponsored event or activity.”
The father, who was allegedly struck in the head by the water bottle, was brough to St. Luke’s Hospital and remains there with a broken jaw, a fractured skull and three brain bleeds, per his lawyer Steve Shellist.
Greaser required seven stiches on his chin and suffered a broken hip and several scrapes.
The incident remains under investigation.
