Insane privileges for illegal-immigrant criminals: Letters to the Editor — Oct. 29, 2026
The Issue: New York City district attorneys reduce charges to shield criminal illegals from deportation.
I’m a former prosecutor from Brooklyn and always insisted that the defendants be treated fairly — meaning no special deals even if a guilty plea would trigger immigration consequences, as it should (“Keeping illegal immigrants from deportation,” Oct. 26).
This was my personal policy before downgrading charges for foreign criminals became an institutional policy.
Even then I was met with hostility from defense lawyers and judges who just wanted to move cases through the system.
These policies are insane.
Only a sick society provides criminal illegals with more privileges than its own citizens.

It is a DA’s job to prosecute criminals, not to instruct subordinates to let illegals off lightly so they can avoid ICE.
ICE should send as many agents as possible to New York City to remove the criminal illegals.
And any district attorney who fails to prosecute criminals to the fullest extent of the law must be removed.
We don’t need more violence from illegals given lighter sentences to avoid deportation.

I thought district attorneys take an oath to uphold the law.
Boy — am I disillusioned with our leaders.

It’s one thing to be compassionate, but it’s another to be completely out of one’s mind and let criminal illegals off the hook.
I don’t care about the ethnicity, religion or any other demographic marker of a criminal.
I just want them to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

These prosecutors should not only be charged for selective prosecution, but for any crimes committed as a result of their failures to put criminals behind bars.
It’s disgusting that even child-sex crimes can see special plea bargaining.
I hope the federal government forces an end to this in New York and wherever else it’s happening.
There is blood on their hands.
District attorneys are supposed to protect law-abiding US citizens — not be social-justice warriors.

The Issue: The stalking and stabbing of a rabbi and another innocent by a woman on a Midtown street.
What was noticeably absent from The Post’s reporting of the antisemitic attacks was any mention of a statement by Mayor Mamdani (“Bust in needle ‘jab at Jews,’ ” Oct. 26).
I realize that he can’t comment on the case, but he could issue a statement that attacks on Jews will not be tolerated.
This is just another example of the mayor missing an opportunity to voice concern for Jewish New Yorkers.

The two people were stabbed simply for being Jewish.
Hate crimes in the city against Jews are rising dramatically and there is no effective solution from Gov. Hochul or the mayor.
New Yorkers need to understand the seriousness of this situation.
Imagine how it would feel if the hate was against you simply because of your religion.
Maybe then there’d be action.

Whether the predators are attacking Jews or any other victims, a single theme recurs: Criminals are not getting the “help” they need from New York City’s “compassionate,” pro-criminal policies.
This misguided attitude is exactly why criminals feel emboldened to break the law.
It’s time to stop fretting about criminals’ need for help and start punishing them.
