HGTV stars Ben and Erin Napier detail their marital ‘problems’ — and what makes her ‘jealous’

HGTV stars Ben and Erin Napier insist their only marital “problems” occur when they have to spend more than two nights apart.

“Which has only happened a handful of times,” Ben, 43, said during the couple’s appearance on “Talk To Me: The Debra Fileta Podcast” on Tuesday.

Erin, 41, agreed that the college sweethearts — who have been married for nearly 18 years, and share daughters Helen, 8, and Mae, 5 — are “hardly ever” apart.

But Ben said the couple constantly communicate when they’re separated.

“It’s, ‘Hey, why didn’t you answer when I called you? Because I was busy, what’s wrong? Why was that so important that you needed me to answer right away?” Ben shared. “You know? It’s that.”

Ben added, “So I guess really, our problem is that we can’t be apart.”

Erin admitted that the “Home Town” stars “really can’t function separately,” while their daughters “can’t function” with just one parent at a time.

“They like it to be both of us all the time,” Erin explained, revealing that when Ben recently “went away for one night,” their kids “acted like he had passed away.”

“It was insane,” she said.

Given the couple have been together since 2004, they both acknowledged that they only know how to do life as a unit.

“We’ve always worked together, and we don’t know how to do it any other way,” said Ben. “It’s a question that comes up a lot when we’re doing media days and things and interviews. It’s like, ‘Oh, how could you stand to work with your spouse all day long?’”

“And to me, that’s more of a sign of, like, ‘Something’s up if you can’t stand to be with your spouse all day.’”

Despite their strong marriage, Erin admitted they do have some differences — namely how “focused” Ben is on other people’s needs, sometimes over his own.

“It’s not for me. It’s not for me at all,” she said. “I’m jealous of him.”

Ben added, “That’s why we’re a good fit.”

Erin even noted that her parents “loved [Ben] immediately” and thought he was “wonderful” after they gave her exes chillier receptions.

In a recent tribute to her husband, Erin said that if she ever “lost” Ben, he’d be “100% irreplaceable.”

“There is not another man anything like him,” she wrote, “and I think about this often.”
