Georgia teen allegedly tried to strangle mom before stealing her SUV and leading cops on 100-mph chase

A Georgia teen allegedly tried to strangle his own mother in a grocery store parking lot — and put a plastic bag over her head — before stealing her SUV and leading cops on a nearly 100-mph chase that ended in a violent crash.

The horrifying ordeal unfolded on Oct. 22 in Cartersville, where 19-year-old Elijah Jase Parker allegedly turned on his mother, Laura Ann Moore, as the two sat inside her 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe in a Publix parking lot, according to WBHF radio.

The attack came without warning.

Elijah Jase Parker, 19, allegedly tried to choke his mother to death before fleeing in her carl.

“Out of the blue, he just started choking her. She felt she was going to lose consciousness,” Cartersville Police Capt. Greg Sparacio told FOX5 Atlanta.

Moore desperately fought back and eventually managed to break free from her son’s grip.

She fled to a nearby Five Guys restaurant.

The stunned mom later told investigators she was convinced her son would have killed her if she hadn’t escaped. She also claimed Parker told her he wasn’t about to go to prison — and if cops tried to stop him, he’d shoot it out with them.

Parker allegedly got behind the wheel and took off, despite having no driver’s license, while cops put out an alert for the vehicle.

He remained on the loose for roughly two hours before officers in nearby Adairsville spotted the stolen SUV and tried to pull him over.

But Parker allegedly had no intention of surrendering.

He led them on a wild pursuit — hitting speeds nearing 100 mph, said authorities.

The chase crossed into neighboring Gordon County, where Parker attempted a turn, lost control of the vehicle and struck a Kia Optima that was stopped at a stop sign.

The driver of the Kia told cops her airbags deployed, but she was suffering from leg pain. Emergency crews rushed to the crash site.

Officers eventually pulled Parker from the wreck and arrested him.

Authorities said Parker admitted he had tried to kill his mother, put a plastic bag over her head and stolen the SUV after she escaped.

Parker remains behind bars on 12 charges, including aggravated assault-strangulation, theft by taking, false imprisonment, fleeing a police officer and reckless driving.

Parker had been arrested weeks earlier on Sept. 14, 2026 on a misdemeanor charge of making terroristic threats but was released a few days later on his own recognizance, according to the Bartow County Inmate Inquiry.

“During this month, domestic violence awareness month, it goes to highlight the dangers of domestic violence, and no community is immune to it,” Sparacio said.
