Giants are the big winners in Week 8 with Cowboys, Eagles in peril
The Giants got to enjoy a Victory Monday this week — and they didn’t even play.
Big Blue were big winners on their bye week, with the Cowboys collapsing against the Cardinals and the Eagles losing to the Commanders on “Sunday Night Football,” marking Philly’s sixth straight loss.
The Giants’ NFC East lead grew as they sit at 4-2-1, with Dallas in second place at 3-5. Washington is in third at 2-4-1 and Philadelphia is in last place at 2-6.
So despite losing quarterback Jaxson Dart and edge rusher Brian Burns to season-ending injuries in Weeks 2 and 3, respectively, the Giants are very much in the driver’s seat in the division in John Harbaugh’s first year in charge.
The injury-ravaged Eagles weren’t exactly firing on all cylinders even with Jalen Hurts, and they look lost without him now that he’s out for the season due to blood clots. They’re 0-3 with Tanner McKee as the starter and have been outscored 90-45 during that stretch.
The Cowboys have lost three of four and don’t appear to be going anywhere with their shambolic defense, which got torched by Gardner Minshew after he replaced starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett mid-game.
And while the Commanders got a much-needed win Sunday, Dan Quinn hasn’t inspired confidence with a series of errors this season, and quarterback Jayden Daniels is playing through an elbow issue that reportedly will require surgery after the season. Washington also lost top receiver Terry McLaurin and defensive tackle Daron Payne for the season.
The Giants have renewed confidence as quarterback J.J. McCarthy, whom they acquired from the Vikings in late September, has gotten off to a strong start.
The rested Giants visit the spiraling Eagles on Sunday before hosting the Commanders four days later on “Thursday Night Football.”
