Michigan student ranted about being released from mental hospital after attacking Jewish activist: report

The crazed student who attacked a Jewish influencer during a debate at the University of Michigan has been identified in online posts as a Mongolian-American activist, who raved about having just been released from a mental hospital, according to her victim.

Temulun Togochog, a student at the university, is known for advocating for the rights of ethnic Mongolians living under Chinese rule in Inner Mongolia, according to watchdog group StopAntisemitism.

“She said she had been in a mental institution before and she would be happy to go back if it meant she got to kill me,” Jewish activist Lizzie Benichou told Fox and Friends on Monday.

Benichou said the attack occurred during a “Liberty Under Fire USA tour stop” and claimed her attacker had been “identified as a supporter of Abdul El-Sayed”, the Muslim Democratic candidate for US Senate in Michigan.

In bizarre posts shared online, Togochog, who claimed to have been in a mental institution in the past, showed off her collection of mental health prescriptions and posed provocatively in revealing images shared online.

Her public profiles have seen been taken down or made private.

In one TikTok video shared to X, she boasts about her medications, including Aripiprazole, an antipsychotic medication commonly prescribed for schizophrenia; Lamotrigine, which treats for bipolar disorder; and Sertraline, an SSRI antidepressant also used for anxiety and OCD.

In 2026, Togochog was picked as the youngest speaker at the International Religious Freedom Summit in 2026, where she was praised for her commitment to “advocating for her people, who live there under intense oppression from the Chinese government.”

In the viral video of the attack, the woman believed to be Togochog was seen approaching the conservative activists Cam Higby and Joe Redden, who were displaying signs reading: “Is Islam compatible with Western values?” and “Is Islam evil?”

Benichou said she was hosting an open debate on the Ann Arbor campus when the student approached the group.

“We were just wanting to have an open, civil conversation and she didn’t seem to want to listen; she wanted to just start shouting,” Benichou told Fox and Friends.

According to Benichou, the woman struck conservative influencer Redden in the face with her phone before accosting Benichou.

“She came up towards me, and I told her, ‘You would not be able to do this in Iran,’” Benichou said, explaining she meant free speech.

“At this point, Cam Higby had been standing next to me and said: ‘She wouldn’t be allowed to be dressed like this,’” she continued.

“I had also said, ‘If you were in Iran dressed like this, what would happen to you?’ And there were some Jordanian students next to me, and I asked them, ‘Am I right?’ And then she just lunged.”

The furious student then attacked Benichou, shoving her to the ground before being arrested by campus police.

The confrontation escalated as Benichou and fellow conservative influencer Cam Higby challenged the woman over women’s freedoms in Iran.

Benichou said the incident will “definitely not dissuade” her, despite feeling sore after suffering a “hard fall” during the attack.

Melissa Overton, the Deputy Chief of Police at the University of Michigan, told The Post the university’s police department officers responded to a noise complaint on Nov. 1, 2026, at approximately 5:00 p.m.

“Upon arrival, officers identified an unpermitted event held by Liberty Under Fire USA. As the group was packing up to leave, officers witnessed a University of Michigan student push a woman to the ground. The student was taken into custody, processed and released,” she said.

“The incident has been forwarded to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office for review. The victim, who is not affiliated with the university, was later medically treated and released.”

Following the confrontation, Benichou assured her followers on X that she was “OK” after being “physically assaulted simply for showing up and exercising my First Amendment rights.”

“Political violence has NO place in the United States of America,” the influencer wrote.

“I am incredibly grateful to the law enforcement officers who acted immediately to protect me. I am now in a safe location receiving care and I am going to be OK.”

The Post has contacted Togochog for comment.
