Draymond Green lasts just two minutes before getting tossed against Suns
Seven games, one half and exactly two minutes of basketball is all it took for Draymond Green to earn his first ejection of his 12th NBA season.
The Warriors’ emotionally charged defensive leader was charged with two technicals on one play early in the second half Monday night against the Suns, sending him to the locker room.
After Phoenix center Khaman Maluach corralled an entry pass, the 7-footer went up for an attempt at the rim, and Green wrapped both arms around him, bringing him to the floor.
Things got heated from there between the two teams, with Devin Booker charging into the scrum beneath the basket to defend his teammate. Booker got into Green’s face and the two players put their arms on each other.
Green was originally assessed a personal foul for his initial contact with Maluach. After a lengthy review, officials assessed him one technical for what they termed his “throwdown.” They also awarded a double technical to Green and Booker for their scrap that followed.
It resulted in a pair of technical fouls for Green and his first ejection of the season — the 26th of his career. Green, who sat out the first half of the Warriors’ back-to-back the previous night, ended up logging 17 minutes, finishing with four points, four rebounds and two assists.
Golden State trailed Phoenix 68-57 at the time he was tossed from the game.
