Michael Mann, 83, photographed on crutches after accidentally shooting himself in leg at gun range
Michael Mann was photographed for the first time since accidentally shooting himself in the leg at a Los Angeles gun range on Oct. 31.
The 83-year-old film director was seen leaving what appeared to be an orthopedic surgeon’s office in Los Angeles on Tuesday, hobbling out on crutches.
Mann kept the outing casual, wearing a plain black T-shirt under a black zip-up hoodie, paired with white pants and black square-frame eyeglasses.
Notably, his left foot appeared to be in a cast, with the filmmaker also sporting a black orthopedic boot.
As Page Six previously reported, Mann was hospitalized on Saturday after accidentally shooting himself at The Range LA around 4 p.m.
Sources told TMZ that Mann was attempting to holster the firearm he had been using when it accidentally went off, striking him in the leg.
Paramedics then transported him in an ambulance to a hospital.
The Los Angeles Police Department also confirmed the incident to TMZ, telling the outlet that Mann was undergoing firearm training when he accidentally discharged the gun he had been using.
The following day, Mann’s representatives told Page Six that the incident had resulted in only a “superficial” injury and that he was expected to be released from the hospital soon.
A source also told Page Six that Mann is an experienced target shooter who has been practicing the sport for decades.
The Range LA is a members-only shooting club on the city’s Westside, with annual memberships ranging from $2,000 to $5,400.
Meanwhile, Mann, who got his start in the entertainment industry in the 1960s, is best known for directing the 1995 crime drama “Heat,” starring Al Pacino, Robert De Niro and the late Val Kilmer.
He also earned multiple Oscar and Golden Globes nominations for his 1999 biographical drama “The Insider,” which saw him reunite with Pacino and starred Russell Crowe and the late Christopher Plummer.
Mann is currently in pre-production on “Heat 2,” which is set to star Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale, with Pacino, 86, and De Niro, 83, also rumored to appear. Filming is reportedly set to begin in January.
Mann has been married to his wife, movie art director Summer Mann, since 1974, and the couple shares four children.
