Gojira is back, and this time, it’s personal, in Godzilla Minus Zero, the new Godzilla movie coming to theaters in the U.S. this weekend.

Written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki, Godzilla Minus Zero is a highly-anticipated sequel to 2023’s hit film Godzilla Minus One, which fans praised as the best Godzilla movie in many years. The 2023 film brought viewers back to post War World II Japan, reinstating the kaiju genre as a metaphor for the existential anxiety that followed the devastation of the atomic bombs. This sequel picks up the story in 1949 Japan, still struggling to rebuild, when a new monster, King Ghidorah, shows up to wreak havoc. Can Japan rely on their former enemy Godzilla to save them in an epic monster battle?

Star Ryunosuke Kamiki is back the an ex-kamikaze pilot, Shikishima, who fled from his post during the war. Minami Hamabe, Hidetaka Yoshioka, Yuki Yamada, Kuranosuke Sasaki, Sakura Ando, and Miou Tanaka are also back, and Min Tanaka, Masami Nagasawa, and Jun Kunimura join the cast as new characters. Is Godzilla Minus Zero streaming on Netflix or Amazon Prime Video?

Godzilla Minus Zero is not streaming on Netflix or Max right now. While it’s possible Godzilla Minus Zero may stream on Netflix or Max someday, it won’t be until after the theatrical run and digital release of the movie. Godzilla Minus Zero is not a Netflix original; it is a small, independent film from Japan being distributed by Toho’s GKIDS label in the U.S.

Right now, GKIDS has an output deal with HBO Max, so you might see Godzilla Minus Zero streaming on HBO Max eventually, after it releases on digital. That said, in 2024, Godzilla Minus One got a surprise release on Netflix about six months after it opened in U.S. theaters, and the movie has been streaming on Netflix ever since. Maybe Netflix will want to snatch up the sequel, too. Right now, we just don’t know.

The Godzilla Minus Zero digital release date has not yet been announced.

In 2024, Godzilla Minus One was released on digital platforms to buy and rent in the U.S. on June 1, which is the same day it began streaming on Netflix internationally, about six months after it opened in theaters in the U.S. If Godzilla Minus Zero follows the same release pattern, it’s possible you’ll see the movie on digital to buy and rent, and streaming on Netflix, around early May 2027.

But this is all speculation. Digital releases vary by title, and we don’t have a clear idea of how Toho will handle the home entertainment title of this highly anticipated release in the U.S. If you want to see Godzilla Minus Zero right away, you can catch the movie in a theater.
