Who Killed Rob-Will On ‘Dutton Ranch’?

Who Killed Rob-Will On ‘Dutton Ranch’?

When Rob-Will (Jai Courtney) arrived to find Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser) investigating the Jackson cattle shipment at the top of Dutton Ranch Episode 9, he told them, “I’d rather die than tell you shit.”

Spoilers for Dutton Ranch Episode 9 ahead.

“If we find what we think we’re gonna find, you’re already a dead man,” Rip told Rob-Will. And he was right. Rob-Will didn’t make it through Dutton Ranch‘s Season 1 finale alive…

After returning home from a chat with Mariano Reyes (Raoul Max Trujillo), Rob-Will ignored his mother’s phone calls and went upstairs to share a touching moment with his daughter, Oreana (Natalie Alyn Lind). When she asked why Rob-Will was still in Rio Paloma, he said, “Somebody’s gotta stand in the doorway when the wolves show up.” And that’s exactly what he did.

After Rob-Will told Oreana he loved her and she was the only thing he did right, the doorbell rang, he went downstairs to answer it, and a gunshot rang out. By the time Oreana ran downstairs, he was dead.

We technically didn’t see who pulled the trigger, but Dutton Ranch gave viewers a fairly good idea of who killed Rob-Will. The show’s delivered its fair share of twists, turns, and surprises thus far, so we’ll have to wait until Dutton Ranch Season 2 to learn how exactly Rob-Will met his demise. But here are six signs that point to Rob-Will’s suspected killer.

  1. Decades Of Brotherly Competition Reached A New Level With The 10-Petal Succession Announcement

While we may have met Rob-Will and Joaquin at an all-time low point in their relationship, it’s clear that the two butt heads for years, and that Joaquin was sick of cleaning his brother’s messes. All of Kino’s efforts seemed worth it when Beulah was ready to hand the 10-Petal off to him at the anniversary bash. She even told him his father would be proud and wrote a speech about seeing him as her flesh and blood! Then Rob-Will returned and secured his legacy by threatening to kill Joaquin.

“Announcing me isn’t just the right thing, it’s the only thing,” Rob-Will told Beulah. “I’ll never let Kino have it. Ever. You understand?” Though Joaquin wasn’t present for the conversation, I think deep down he knew his brother would kill to get the 10-Petal, and if he wanted it, he’d have to do the same. Tensions had never been higher between the two, and motive was certainly there…

  2. Joaquin Reached His Breaking Point And Turned On Rob-Will

Speaking of motive, prior to Rob-Will’s death, Joaquin already tried to take him down at the station in Episode 8. He tossed the gun that Rob-Will used to kill Wes Ayers on Sheriff Wade’s (Josh Stewart) desk and ordered him to issue a warrant for his brother’s arrest. When Wade said, “Your family’s crazier than a sack of cats in a rainstorm,” Kino replied, “They’re no longer my family.” Joaquin’s plan was a bust because he didn’t know where Wes’ body was, but his words and actions were those of a man deeply scorned. And once Sheriff Wade finds out about Rob-Will’s death, Kino will likely be an early suspect.

  3. What Mariano Says Goes

Aside from Joaquin’s many personal conflicts with Rob-Will, the main reason fans believe he was pushed to murder him is because his powerful, influential father Mariano literally said, “I want you to kill your brother.” After Kino called his dad for help and he came all the way to Rio Paloma, do you really think he’d disobey the request and a chance to prove that he, too, was capable of achieving power?

  4. Joaquin Was Sitting Outside Contemplating

While Rob-Will and Oreana were upstairs having their touching father/daughter chat, Joaquin appeared to be sitting in the driveway of the mansion in his black SUV emotionally clutching his cross and loading a gun. If you need more evidence than that, we’ve got it!

  5. That Looks Like Kino’s SUV Peeling Away From The Scene, Right?

While we didn’t see who shot Rob-Will, we did see a black SUV — which looked a lot like the one Kino was driving — speed away from the scene as Oreana found her father’s body.

  6. Kino Pulled Over To Cry And Glance At A Gun

The last time we laid eyes on Kino in Dutton Ranch Season 1 he was pulling his black SUV over to cry. He even glanced down at his gun again, so yeah! At the end of Dutton Ranch‘s debut season it’s looking like Joaquin killed his brother Rob-Will for a number of reasons. So what happens next? If Joaquin did kill Rob-Will, will the guilt eat Joaquin alive or harden him to follow in his father’s footsteps? How will he face Oreana and Beulah? And what happens if — or more likely, when — they find out?! Stay tuned for Dutton Ranch Season 2!
