A person who found two abandoned dogs at a Los Angeles beach worries that something tragic happened to their owner, sparking concern the person may have been abducted.

Paolo Moreno wrote on social media he was at Will Rogers State Beach park on July 9 when he came across two well cared for dogs — with dog food, a female swimsuit, blanket and journal — inside a women’s restroom near Temescal Canyon Boulevard.

“My biggest concern is that something happened to the owner of the dogs,” Moreno told FoxLA.

“I think it’s possible that there was an abduction here at the beach.”

“It’s scary. God forbid something happened to her. I have two adult daughters, and it’s really concerning,” he added. 

The Good Samaritan said he sought help from the police concerned that something awful happened to the owner. 

He said the officer he spoke with at the Los Angeles Police Department admitted the conditions he found the dogs in, with the personal belongings left behind, didn’t match up with someone abandoning the pooches.

However, when they checked the missing persons report for that day, he said none showed up.

Moreno thought the dogs might belong to a person who was homeless, so he took them to nearby camps and said no one had recognized them.

He said also when he took them to see a vet to see if it would give him some clues that lead back to the owner, he found they weren’t chipped. 

“Over the past several days, I’ve spoken with beach maintenance workers, homeless individuals, members of the van-life community, vendors, veterinarians, rescue organizations, and law enforcement,” Moreno wrote on social media.

“I’ve walked the area handing out flyers, retraced the timeline, and followed every lead I could find.”

To add even more to this mystery, in Moreno’s latest post on social media, he said a Harbor/Beaches employee he spoke with claimed the “dogs belonged to a homeless woman who had been removed by police.”

But he said when he followed up with LAPD he said they told him that “no woman had been arrested, removed, “booted,” or forced out of that location by police.”

“That is when I learned the original information I had been given was inaccurate,” he added.

Moreno said he’s hoping by sharing this story with the news outlet someone will recognize the dogs, “and we learn that nothing bad happened to the owner.”
