Martha Stewart shades ex-husband Andy as ‘a jerk’ while revisiting bitter divorce

Martha Stewart ruthlessly labeled her ex-husband, Andy Stewart, as a “jerk” while discussing their bombshell 1990 divorce.

When asked whether she heard from Andy after discussing their separation in her self-named 2024 Netflix documentary, the TV personality told People Wednesday, “Only legally, to remind me of divorce settlement statements.”

“Which I had never read,” she added. “I mean, who cared after two years of arguing about a settlement? I still haven’t read it. He’s a jerk.”

Martha, 85, and Andy, 87, tied the knot in 1961 and welcomed their only child, a daughter named Alexis, in 1965.

The exes parted ways after nearly 30 years of marriage in 1987, which Andy allegedly pushed for, Martha shared in her documentary.

“He’s the one who wanted the divorce, not I,” she said. “He was throwing me away. I was 40 years old. I was gorgeous. I was a desirous woman, but he was treating me like a castaway.”

“He treated me really badly, and, in return, I guess I treated him badly, the “Martha Stewart Show” alum claimed.

Additionally, there was infidelity on both ends of the relationship, with Martha alleging that her ex-husband “was running off with people.”

“I didn’t go run off with people,” she claimed. “I always said I was a swan and like all swans, they are monogamous. And I thought monogamy was admirable. I did. I thought it was admirable. But it turned out that it didn’t save a marriage.”

Martha, however, admitted to having also cheated on Andy, explaining how she kissed a stranger while on their honeymoon in Florence, Italy.

The cooking guru shared that she visited a cathedral without her ex, calling it a “very romantic place crowded with tourists.”

“I met this very handsome guy, she said in the documentary. “He didn’t know I was married … He was emotional, I was emotional. It’s just because it was an emotional place. It was unlike anything I had ever experienced.”

The businesswoman also candidly revealed how she had a “very brief affair with a very attractive Irish man” while working as a stockbroker in New York early in their marriage.

“I don’t think Andy ever knew about that,” Martha said. “It was nothing. In terms of I would have never broken up a marriage for it. It was nothing. It was like the kiss in the cathedral.”

After the documentary’s release, Andy and his third wife, Shyla Nelson Stewart, called out Martha for “publicly relitigat[ing] the marriage” while he had “quietly moved on and forward with his life.”

Andy and Shyla tied the knot in 2016 after his second marriage to Robyn Fairclough, whom he married in 1993.
