A movie where single people can only legally have sex one night a year, aka One Night Only, opens in theaters this weekend. And no, I’m not joking. (Nor is this a test.) The premise is the movie is that single people only get one night a year for legal sex. It’s literally The Purge, but for sex.

Directed by Will Gluck (known for his other popular romantic comedies like Easy A and Anyone But You), with a screenplay from the twisted mind of Travis Braun, One Night Only stars Monica Barbaro as a singer who is single and decides to use her “one night” of sex to find true love, after years of getting ghosted. She happens to meet Owen (Callum Turner), a pizza shop owner who’s recently been dumped by his longtime girlfriend (Maya Hawke). Can these two lovebirds make a true love connection in just one night?

Because of it’s absurd premise, One Night Only has become something a meme online. But hey, all press is good press, right? We know you’re curious about the sex purge movie, so read on to find out when and where we expect to be able to watch One Night Only on streaming.

Where to watch the One Night Only movie:

One Night Only will only available to watch in a movie theater, when it opens in the U.S. on Friday, August 7, in theaters nationwide. You can find a showing near you via Fandango. One Night Only is not yet available to watch online or on streaming.

Is the One Night Only movie streaming on Netflix or Amazon Prime Video?

One Night Only is not streaming on Netflix, and likely will not be on Netflix any time soon, due to the fact that the film is a Universal release, and not a Netflix movie. Almost all Universal movies go to the NBCUniversal streaming platform, Peacock.

You will be able to purchase One Night Only on Prime Video eventually, when the movie becomes available to buy and rent on digital. You will also eventually be able to stream One Night Only on Prime Video, free with a Prime subscription, four months after the movie streams on Peacock.

This is thanks to the deal between Universal and Amazon that sends Universal movies to Peacock for the first four months of the “Pay 1 window,” then to Amazon Prime Video for the next four months of the window, followed by four more months on Peacock. If our prediction for when One Night Only will be on Peacock is correct, then you should see One Night Only streaming on Prime around May 2027.

But the first place you’ll be able watch One Night Only movie at home will be to buy or rent on digital platforms, followed by a streaming release on Peacock.

Is the One Night Only movie streaming on Peacock?

You might see One Night Only streaming on Peacock around October 2026.

The One Night Only streaming release date on Peacock has not yet been announced, but you will likely see the One Night Only movie streaming on Peacock later this year. Another Universal release, You Me And Tuscany, will begin streaming on Peacock about four months after the movie opened in theaters.

If One Night Only follows a similar release pattern, you might see the movie on digital in about a month, around early September 2026, and streaming on Peacock around early December 2026. That said, other Universal movies have taken just three, or even two months to come to Peacock, so you may see One Night Only on Peacock even earlier, around November 2026.

This is all speculation. Universal has not had a consistent digital release strategy. It varies by title. If you want to watch the One Night Only movie right away, your best bet is to catch the movie in theaters.
