Eli Roth, the director who brought you the holiday-themed gore fest that was 2023’s Thanksgiving, is back with a new silly slasher, Ice Cream Man, which opens in theaters nationwide this weekend. Frozen treat season isn’t over yet, but after you watch this movie, you’ll wish that it was.

Directed by Roth, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Noah Belson, Ice Cream Man stars Ari Millen (best known for playing Mark on Orphan Black) as the eponymous Ice Cream Man, who pays a visit to a idyllic small town with his truck full of sweet, frozen treats. The kids in the neighborhood are all too happy to indulge. Unfortunately for them, and for their parents, the ice cream turns them into homicidal maniacs. It’s just slightly more harmful than a sugar buzz.

Also starring Charlie Zeltzer, Shiloh O’Reilly, Kiori Mirza Waldman, Sarah Abbott, and Benjamin Byron Davis, Ice Cream Man has not received good reviews from critics. It’s also controversial because Roth admitted to using Generative AI for some of the film’s animated sequences. If you’d rather wait to watch the movie at home rather than schlep to the theater for AI, we can’t blame you. Ice Cream Man is not streaming on Netflix or Prime Video right now. While it’s possible Ice Cream Man may stream on Netflix someday, it won’t be until after the theatrical run and digital release of the movie.
