Despite Philadelphia Eagles star Nolan Smith’s insinuation this week that his reckless driving case was in his past, the matter is still very much open, the California Post can exclusively report.

Georgia authorities said on Thursday that Smith is still facing charges from his May arrest, when he was accused of going 135 mph in a 70 mph zone in a 2026 Lamborghini.

A representative for the Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement to The Post that Smith’s case “is still open,” and a Twiggs County court official added that Smith currently has a bench trial slated for Aug. 25.

Smith previously had a court date of July 14 on his calendar, however, on the date of that scheduled hearing, his attorney requested the proceedings be moved to later this summer, according to the court official.

On Monday, when asked at a press conference if anything had “come of the speeding ticket that you got in Georgia,” Smith told a room full of reporters that “nothing came from it.”

“I apologized to the organization,” he said, “and I’ll make that apology now. I represent the Eagles no matter where I go. Georgia, Florida, it doesn’t matter. That’s one of the ones that I own up and I apologize for. It’s just like that. We make mistakes and it can’t happen again and that’s unacceptable.”

A spokesperson for the Eagles declined to comment on the situation when reached on Thursday because “it is still a pending matter.”

Smith was pulled over by a Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office lieutenant at around 11 p.m. on May 15 after he was observed traveling on a highway “at what appeared to be an extreme rate of speed,” law enforcement wrote in an incident report.

Smith was taken into custody at the scene and booked on one charge of speeding in excess of maximum limits and one charge of reckless driving.

At his Monday conference, Smith said he issued apologies for the incident to Eagles general manager Howie Roseman and team owner Jeffrey Lurie.

“I can’t let my teammates down like that,” he said. “They hold me to a different accountability on and off the field.”
