Typhoon Dolphin batters Japan with strong winds, heavy rain

Typhoon Dolphin brought strong winds, heavy rain and high waves to Japan’s southern islands on August 7, leading to shop closures and more than 500 flight cancellations. The storm had sustained winds of up to 89 mph, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency. Nearly 260,000 residents in Kagoshima and Okinawa prefectures were ordered to evacuate, while Toyota suspended operations at nine factories.
