Eight more people have been charged by police after a teenager was allegedly tied to a tree and tortured by a group of people in North Queensland.

Three people were initially charged in July after the teenager, 17, was found with serious injuries in bushland off Cape Pallarenda Rd in Town Common.

It is alleged the teenager was tied to a tree and assaulted by a group of people.

A 13-year-old Deeragun boy was located and charged with four offenses including one count each of deprivation of liberty – unlawfully detained/confined, assaults occasioning bodily harm while armed/in company, grievous bodily harm and torture.

A 35-year-old Kirwan woman was located and charged with five offenses including one count each of deprivation of liberty – unlawfully detained/confined, assaults occasioning bodily harm while armed/in company, grievous bodily harm, torture and driving of motor vehicle without a driver license SPER Susp (Qld Lic).

She will appear before court on September 28.

A 14-year-old Kirwan girl was charged with four offenses including one count each of grievous bodily harm, torture, deprivation of liberty – unlawfully detained/confined, assaults occasioning bodily harm while armed/in company.

She was dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.

On Monday, Queensland Police said eight others had been charged.

A 40-year-old Heatley woman, a 36-year-old Cranbrook woman, a 32-year-old Kirwan woman, a 30-year-old Heatley man, and a 24-year-old Heatley man have all been charged with one count each of unlawfully detaining or confining, assaults occasioning bodily harm while armed/in company, grievous bodily harm and torture.

They will appear before Townsville Magistrates Court on Monday.

Three 15-year-old boys, two from Kirwan and one from Mount Low, were also charged with one count each of the same offenses.

The pair from Kirwan appeared at Townsville Children’s Court on August 8. The Mount Low boy will appear before court on August 14.

The 17-year-old was found in bushland off Cape Pallarenda Rd on July 18 at around 6:35am with serious injuries, police said.

He was believed to have been assaulted and left near a tree before he was discovered by some joggers and taken to Townsville University Hospital in stable condition.

The new alleged offenders add to the original three people who were charged for the crime.

A 13-year-old boy from Deeragun and a 14-year-old girl from Kirwan received the same four charges.

The boy appeared before court on July 24 while the girl was “dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act,” police said.

A 35-year-old Kirwan woman received the same charges plus one count of driving a motor vehicle without a driver’s license.

Townsville Child Abuse and Sexual Crime Unit, Officer in Charge Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Miles said only some of the participants were known to the victim.

He also said the young boy was allegedly found “with significant injuries requiring surgical intervention to resolve” and that he was in a stable condition, the Townsville Bulletin reports.

He also shed light on allegations on the behavior of those involved after the boy was abandoned.

“These individuals were driving erratically around the Townsville area on the Strand, and there was a collision,” he said.

“This wasn’t a random attack, this was orchestrated by a cohort of individuals in relation to this young person.”

Police said investigations remain ongoing and are urging anyone with information into the incident to come forward and assist with their investigation.
