Does it say “I’m a lunatic” on the back?

Some agitators in Oakland dislike their city’s neighbor, Piedmont. The latter is just too white, too rich — and for those reasons, too annoying.

So they’ve called for the cancellation of the independent, incorporated city with 11,000 residents.

Cue the clown music.

The push to “cancel” Piedmont for the sin of white wealth shows just how loony the far left has become.  

Where would the people of Piedmont go, if the city were canceled? 

No one, least of all the agitators –– led by Oakland advocate and transit planner Jesse Rosemoore — seems sure. 

But still. Rosemoore & Co. can’t stand a genteel, prosperous, law-abiding neighbor. Apparently, they’d prefer to live next to a basket case. 

Smart.

But seriously, why not look to orderly, well-governed Piedmont for inspiration, rather than with envy? 

Oh, right. It’s easier to grandstand and demonize a successful neighbor than it is to reform Oakland — which suffers from a range of woes including blight, homelessness and abysmal local governance. (Former Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao was recalled by voters in 2024 and faces federal corruption charges.)

It almost seems like Roosemore et al. want to pull Piedmont into similar dysfunction in a “misery loves company” sort of thing. 

That is the logical conclusion of the class-envy “equity” rhetoric: Agony for everyone. 

If the left in California wants to be taken seriously, it needs serious people with serious ideas — not abject lunacy.

The agitators could drop the silliness and focus attention on something constructive.

But then, who would buy the T-shirts?
