Not only is Paris always a good idea, but so is a choreographed TikTok dance, especially when Scott Michael Foster is involved.

The first three episodes of Paris is Always a Good Idea, the Hallmark+ series based on Jenn McKinlay’s 2020 novel of the same name, have seen Chelsea Martin (Lacey Chabert) reunite with two of her past loves—Colin (Stephen Hagan) and Sebastian (Julien Marlon Samani_—in hopes that one of these “what ifs” could be the one she’s meant to be with. However, by the end of Episode 3, “Sebastian Revealed,” Chelsea might just find herself falling for Jason Knightly (Foster).

By the start of Episode 4, “Knightly,” we learn that the voice memo that Chelsea is painstakingly recording in the bridal suite a year past the primary events of Paris is Always a Good Idea is intended for her colleague and rival at the American Cancer Coalition (ACC).

Prefacing that she “promised” him “the whole truth… all of it, even when it hurts,” Chelsea recalls the first day she met Knightly, which takes viewers on a flashback to the ACC office in Boston. Chelsea’s boss Aiden (Ramon Tikaram) introduces her to Knightly through a “viral campaign” he launched on TikTok that resulted in “hundreds of thousands of people” participating. The TikTok in question? A video of Knightly busting a move, which also sees him transform from a casual sweatshirt and jeans into a suit.

Chelsea attempts to hide her skepticism, telling Aiden, “Cool.”

Aiden replies, “I’m glad you think so. He starts today.”

Blindsided, Chelsea is further stunned when she learns that Knightly isn’t just joining her team, but will be her partner.

“Now we’re bringing in some flashy guy with a nice face and mediocre dancing skills, as if he’s gonna somehow do anything to add value to the department that I’ve created?” she tells Aiden.

Little does she know that Knightly is standing right behind her.

“Ouch. I kind of thought my dancing skills were pretty good,” he jokes.

While speaking with DECIDER via Zoom ahead of the premiere of Paris is Always a Good Idea, Foster credited a “lovely” choreographer in San Sebastian “who’s got a dance studio” for the routine featured in the TikTok.

“I went into the dance studio one day before and he was like, ‘Here’s what I’m thinking.’ And I was, like, ‘I think you think I’m more capable than I am,’” Foster teased. “So we changed the dance a little bit. Yeah, we did it like a few times the day before. We did it on set the next day. Thankfully, I think it turned out alright.”

Chabert, who was sitting alongside him, added, “It was fantastic.”

Foster continued, “But I just love the way they edited it with the two outfits and everything. It was really fun.”

The Crazy Ex-Girlfriend actor admitted that he “must have glossed over” this part of the script when he initially read it, explaining that he “forgot about it by the time they were like, ‘Alright you’re doing your big TikTok dance.’”

“And I was like, ‘Oh, right. Okay.’ An actual dance and it’s me doing it?” he quipped. “I don’t have a dance double? It was awesome.”
