Bulls’ All-Star guard rips Lakers as NBA’s most overrated team

The new look Lakers are already catching strays.

Bulls All-Star guard Norman Powell named the Lakers as the most overrated team in the NBA on a recent Kick stream with internet personality N3on.

Powell was formerly a cross-town rival of the Lakers, having some of the best years of his career with the Clippers from 2021 through 2025.

Powell’s remarks come at an interesting time for the Lakers franchise. The offseason featured a slew of dramatic events including the departure of LeBron James and owner Mark Walter selling the team amid a federal investigation.

As for the Lakers’ roster, general manager Rob Pelinka orchestrated a massive overhaul headlined by center Walker Kessler’s four-year, $130 million deal. LA’s new trio features Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves and Kessler.

Many experts are predicting the Lakers to finish the 2026-27 season as a fringe playoff team, rather than a legitimate contender. Thus, Powell’s comments seem unwarranted.

But the guard formerly played for the Clippers from 2022-25, so his remarks may be coming from the crosstown rivalry.

The Lakers have much to prove with Doncic officially at the helm of the organization. The star guard faces immense pressure to transform the Lakers into a championship team.
