A rock climber was plucked from a towering California cliff after falling and becoming injured 700 feet up the steep rock face known as “Power Dome.”

The climber fell at Courtright Reservoir around 12:45 p.m. Friday and needed medical assistance, according to KSEE24.

A helicopter from CHP Coastal Division Air Operations’ base in Paso Robles was dispatched to the scene with a two-man crew, which included a rescue technician from the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.

Rescuers opted to hoist the stranded climber from the massive rock face rather than carry out a 500-foot rope rappel rescue, according to the Shaver Lake Fire Department.

The climber was successfully extracted from the cliff and taken to a waiting ambulance for medical care.

The operation brought together several agencies, including the Fresno County Search and Rescue Mountaineering Team, CHP Coastal and Central Division Air Operations, Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, Fresno Cal Fire and the U.S. Forest Service’s Sierra National Forest.
