CeeDee Lamb’s injury scare piles on bad news for Cowboys after brutal loss

It could go from bad to worse for the Cowboys.

Star wideout CeeDee Lamb played sparingly in the second half of the Cowboys’ shocking 24-16 loss to the Buccaneers on “Thursday Night Football.”

Lamb was dealing with a quad injury and was seen walking back to the Cowboys locker room — only appearing in one play from scrimmage and the Cowboys’ two-point conversion attempt in the latter part of the fourth quarter.

Lamb was held to two catches for nine yards as the Cowboys offense was stagnant for most of the night against the previously winless Buccaneers.

The Cowboys did not provide an update on Lamb’s injury status after the game. The stud wideout was coming off a virtuoso performance against the Texans, pulling in 17 catches for 189 yards and a touchdown in a win on Sunday.

Without Lamb at 100-percent, George Pickens had his best game of the season for Dallas. Pickens brought in nine catches for 130 yards and a touchdown.

However, tight end Jake Ferguson struggled and had two crucial drops.

That included one on the Cowboys’ final possession as they were driving to try to tie the game. The ball deflected off Ferguson’s facemask and was intercepted by Tampa linebacker Alex Anzalone.

That sealed a stunning loss for the Cowboys, who were heavily favored all week as the now 1-4. Buccaneers were playing with undrafted rookie quarterback Jalon Daniels.

“I didn’t plan on being 2-3, disappointed by that for sure,” Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said. “But we’re just getting started. There’s a lot of football left and we’re gonna play better. We know that.”

The Cowboys’ loss adds even more intrigue to the NFC East with the Eagles dealing with a rash of injuries — on top of Lane Johnson’s retirement and the Cam Jurgens trade — and sitting at 2-2. The Giants are on top of the division at 3-1 and will travel to Washington to take on the 1-3 Commanders, who are in last place.

The Cowboys take on the Packers next week on “Sunday Night Football.”
