Darializa Avila Chevalier gushes over Mamdani, claims they’re still comrades as rift grows over calls to fire Jessica Tisch
They have buried the sickle!
Rabble-rouser House candidate Darializa Avila Chevalier gushed over frenemy Mayor Zohran Madmani — claiming they just spoke and remain thick as socialist thieves — despite sparking a political firestorm for the last week with her calls for his police commissioner to resign.
Chevalier bent over backwards on WNYC Thursday afternoon to dismiss the growing rift between Hizzoner and his handpicked comrade for the New York 13th congressional seat that was revealed by The Post, claiming the two talk all the time and have a “great relationship.”
“I don’t think much of what the New York Post says seriously,” she told Bridget Bergen
“When the mayor and I spoke about the article after it came out, we were cracking jokes about the ridiculousness of the article itself,” Chevalier continued. “Like there is no, there is nothing true about that New York Post article. And, you know, I think it’s – we have a great relationship.”
The DSA firebrand also doubled down on her criticism of Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, calling on her to resign.
“The fact that she rather than condemn, you know, the actions of ICE or and acknowledge that there needs to be a serious investigation into NYPD behavior,” Chevalier said, adding, “I made it very clear that I think it is on Jessica Tisch to step down. I think she is the one who did not need the moment.”
But she twisted herself into a pretzel to not mention Mamdani’s role in appointing Tisch — a Zionist Jew — and his continued public support for his top cop.
“I also think the mayor and I have or see eye-to-eye on most of this, right? He is already putting funds towards accountability, right, mechanisms of accountability to NYPD. He’s already said that there’s going to be a robust investigation into what happened within 24 hours after the shooting and, you know, I think and he’s also said that he is working to disband the SRG.”

Chevalier and others in the DSA have repeatedly called for the disbanding of the Strategic
Response Group — a campaign promise that Mamdani has yet to fulfill.
One insider told The Post Mamdani was not Chevalier’s biggest fan, with his staffers increasingly worried about her being a political liability.
But another source with knowledge of the two’s relationship noted that the situation was “tricky” because Chevalier is now dating the mayor’s City Hall attorney, Ramzi Kassem, who wields outsized power in the admin.
