Josh O’Connor addresses ‘extraordinary’ James Bond rumors as Pierce Brosnan throws his weight behind another front-runner

Josh O’Connor says he is “very honored” to be in the running for the role of James Bond, as speculation continues to swirl over who will succeed Daniel Craig as 007.

The “Crown” actor addressed the “extraordinary” rumors in an interview with the BBC on Tuesday, amid reports that he is expected to test for the iconic role.

“It’s an incredibly bizarre, pinch-me moment … even being uttered in that same sentence and being considered for something like that,” O’Connor, 36, told the outlet. “To be considered in that same sort of bracket is extraordinary.”

However, he declined to elaborate further on the speculation, saying he was “afraid” there was “nothing to say beyond that.”

Meanwhile, former James Bond Pierce Brosnan all but endorsed another front-runner for the part, Callum Turner.

“I’m just an audience member now. I’m just the man in the street who is eager to see who is going to play this epic role of cinematic history. All the men who are on the list now are actors I admire,” Brosnan, 73, told Vanity Fair in an interview published Tuesday.

He went on to single out Turner, 36, with whom he played father and son in 2017’s “The Only Living Boy in New York,” describing him as “so strong.”

“They all have a voice and a physique and a presence on film. They all have longevity as actors, all of these young men,” Brosnan added.

The Irish actor, who played James Bond in four films between 1995 and 2002, also had a few words of advice for whoever is next to join the ranks of those who have portrayed 007.

“Whoever plays the role, I wish him the very best of life and strength and courage. You know, it’s hard to tell who it [will] be, but I eagerly await to hear the news and the celebration of the next James Bond,” Brosnan said.

As Page Six previously reported, the search for the next James Bond had narrowed to two finalists: Turner and Jack Lowden, both of whom were expected to screen-test last month, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The outlet also reported that at least four offers to screen-test had been extended, with O’Connor among those expected to audition. The identity of a fourth contender has not been revealed.

Meanwhile, Jacob Elordi, who had previously been rumored to be in consideration, was no longer in the running, per THR.

“Sinners” actor Jack O’Connell, who had also been linked to the part, was reportedly not among the finalists either.

Most recently, Lowden, 36, broke his silence on the speculation, describing it as “very flattering” in an interview with British GQ published Monday.

“It’s nice to be mentioned — for any role — and I’m just not really going to add to the noise,” he said.
