The One Show's Alex Jones announces huge schedule shake-up live on air amid World Cup

Alex Jones hosted Friday’s episode of The One Show with Roman Kemp
Alex Jones announced a huge schedule shake-up at the end of Friday’s The One Show.
The FIFA World Cup 2026 is currently taking place with coverage of the football event dominating both ITV and BBC. However, due to the broadcasting of the global sporting event, it has caused havoc with the schedule of many popular programmes.
On Friday’s The One Show, Alex, 49, hosted the programme with Roman Kemp. The duo were joined by Tip Toe star David Morrissey, wildlife presenter Steve Backshall and singer Sienna Spiro, who performed live.
During the end of the show, Alex told viewers that The One Show wouldn’t air on Monday due to the football coverage in a huge schedule shake-up.
Alex said: “A big thanks of course to all of our guests for joining us tonight. We have got the night off on Monday to make way for the World Cup.
“So we’ll be back on Tuesday, keeping cool in the studio with actors Hannah Waddingham, Octavia Spencer, J.K. Simmons and Tom Brittney. But for now, singing us into the weekend, it’s Sienna Spiro with Material Lover.”
During Friday’s show, actor David Morrissey opened up about his recent Channel 4 series Tip Toe. The five-part suburban thriller featuring David, 61, and Alan Cumming was crafted by It’s A Sin creator and Doctor Who screenwriter Russell T Davies.
David plays electrician Clive while Alan, 61, plays gay bar owner Leo. A synopsis for the show reads: “When Leo gives his next-door neighbour Clive his spare key, simple disagreements escalate into dangerous hostility in their Manchester suburb.”
Talking about the show and reaction, David said: “Yeah, I mean, you know, it’s always that thing of putting, it’s quite a tough drama.
“You know, you put so much hard work into it, and yeah, walking down the street, people have been really sort of vocal about how much they’ve felt moved by the show, and some people just came up and shook my hand and said, ‘well done’.
“So yeah, it’s really landed very well. You never know when you do a show about how it’s going to be received out there, but yeah, it’s been received really, really well.”
The One Show airs on weeknights at 7pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
