FIFA set to pay out huge compensation package after World Cup star's horror injury

Canada star Ismael Kone picked up a gruesome leg injury in his side’s 6-0 victory against Qatar at the World Cup and FIFA are set to count the consequences over the coming days
FIFA are set to pay out nearly HALF A MILLION pounds for Ismael Kone’s serious injury. The Canada star sustained a horrific broken leg in his side’s 6-0 win against Qatar on Thursday following a mistimed challenge by Assim Madibo, who apologised in the aftermath and received a straight red card.
Kone has since undergone surgery to correct the issue. A statement from the Canadian FA read: “The operation to repair the fracture in his left leg was a complete success.
“The player will begin his rehabilitation programme in the coming days. The whole club sends Ismael their best wishes for a speedy recovery.”
While the co-hosts will now count the cost of Kone’s absence for the remainder of the tournament, FIFA are also set to pay out. The FIFA Club Protection Programme is in place in order to compensate clubs who see their players injured while on international duty.
To qualify, an injury has to see a player ruled out for longer than 28 days, which Kone’s issue looks sure to do. The midfielder apparently earns around £3,200 per week with club side Sassuolo and should he be ruled out for 150 days, that would see FIFA pay out £480,000 – but the final figure could end up being considerably higher than that depending on how it takes for him to return.
A statement from the Italian side read: “The operation to repair the fracture in his left leg was a complete success. The player will begin his rehabilitation programme in the coming days. The whole club sends Ismaël their best wishes for a speedy recovery.”
Kone also released an update on his condition on Friday. Taking to social media, he said: “ALLAH has never failed me. Throughout my life, not even once. So why doubt him now? Especially knowing that. He knows and sees everything before it even happened. He has a plan and a vision for all of us.
“This battle is test to my faith in him and to my character. And honestly I’m ready for it because, ALLAH will never give you a challenge that you can’t overcome and being tested is the best of gift from god.
“Your love and support has been felt, honestly thank you so much. You can’t even imagine, how grateful I am to everyone who reached out and that has me in their prayers. I thank god for that because not everyone is this fortunate.
“To Canadian brothers, as I turned myself into assistant coach to support you from the sideline. I wanted you to know that I love you guys from the bottom of my heart and our brotherhood is everything to me.
“What you guys did yesterday will stay with me forever. I’ll be back very soon and we’ll keep making more memories together.”
